So I decided, why not make such kitty myself? After several minutes on Pinterest, I got an idea of a very simple way of making it. I tried to catch every step I made to share on this blog! At the end of the article I will point out a slight difference between light and black cat, but for now you will be following the white cat.
Preparation # For this cat you need:
Felt Thread Needle Some toy stuffing (you can use cotton or anything else tbh!). Begin # Step 1 # First of all, draw your own, print or redraw my cat shape on paper, and carefully cut it out. You should get body and head.
Step 2 # Then, put papers on felt and redraw it. You must get two identical felt bodies and one head. Cut it out
Step 3 # Now it’s time to embroider cat’s details! As you saw on the first photo, my cats look different, so the design is fully up to you! I used simple small stitches being close to each other. Take an important note that I embroidered on one body part and head, leaving one body untouched. It connects face to the rest of the cat.
Step 4 # Once design was made, use blanket stitches to sew up parts on the edges. Do not stitch up to the end, as we will be filling the toy.
Step 5 (Final step) # Near the end, take some stuffing and put inside the cat. Finish blanket stitching and ta da! Your cat is done!
Some notes # A note about black cat. In light colored one I used an additional face to give some volume, while in black I did not. There I just embroidered right on one of the body parts and then sewed them up together, like I would do if had head.

Source code: https://github.com/BudgieKitten/steganography
Introduction # Steganography is the study of concealing (hiding) messages or data in an image, without it being detected. Not to confuse with watermarking which usually carries supplemental information and is often advertised to deter illegal activity.
Steganography comes in a variety of forms. It was an effective method to communicate during war, without being suspected or discovered. Example: https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/knitting-spies-wwi-wwii. Or, hiding information (or secrets) in a song. Example: https://cacm.acm.org/news/hiding-data-in-music/
It is often difficult to distinguish whether an image contains the secret messages without the original image. This project will implement the simplest and most common steganography algorithm called Least Significant Bit (LSB).
Some primers # Image formats # .bmp: image is not compressed .jpg and .jpeg: compressed image but may lose some information .png: lossless and compressed image Image size in order of decreasing: .bmp > .png > .jpg
Image organization # Generally stored in raster formats, where the data (RGBA) is stored row by row (like a matrix).
Explanation # The project uses LSB embedding algorithm which is the most common and simplest algorithm. However, it is vulnerable to histogram attack. Even though it is very insecure, it is usually undetectable.
1 word (encoded in UTF-8) is 8-bit and the RGBA color range has a total of 4 colors (8-bit for each color Red, Green, Blue, Alpha). Therefore, each color can be used to store at least \\(8\\verb|-bit word| ÷ 4 \\verb| color| = 2 \\verb| bits|\\) of the word. In total, the last 2 bits of each color will be used to store the word.
In order to avoid integer overflow from adding or subtracting bits into the color value (\\(x>255\\) or \\(x<0\\)), let \\(x\\) to be the number of bits that will be embedded, \\(|x+4|<=131\\) will be chosen for colors that stays in the range \\(0−127\\) after getting embedded and \\(|x−4|>123\\) for colors in the range \\(128−255\\).
Limitations: \\(rows imes columns\\) pixels (of the image) must be larger than the total characters. Otherwise, it can overwrite the previously embedded message (by the pigeonhole theorem).
The math # During embedding: # New color bit of each color value == color value (8-bit) + embedded bit (2-bit)
\\(\\Longrightarrow\\) Embedded bit == Bit of a word - (color value mod 4)
During extracting: # (Each color value (of embedded image) \\(\\bmod\\) 4) = Original bit of the secret text
Notes: # During embedding, if the messages reaches End of File (-1), the null bit (0,0,0,0) will be embedded to mark EOF. Since the project is currently only supporting UTF-8 (for now), any foreign characters (larger than 8-bit or \\(127_{10}\\) or essentially larger than number 127 in decimal), the character will be substituted as ‘?’. She decided to trade her voice in exchange for a pair of legs to walk on land and tried to meet him. In the end they both succeeded and married each other and lived a happy life (Classic Disney movie lol).
On the other hand, in the original story written by Andersen (and other variations of the story), the little mermaid witnessed the prince marrying another princess in an arranged marriage, and died by dissolving into sea foam.
Greek mythology # Portrayed as a sexual, predatory and half-woman, half-fish creature hoping to eat sailors, like in the classic scene of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, where the pirates are surrounded by mermaids wanting to eat them, and the mermaids are seen as treasures to the pirates.
Known as the sirens in the Greek mythology, the mermaid will use her beauty, sing these beautiful songs and sit on rocks calling for anyone in the sea who dares to approach her, and she will in turn devour him.
By John William Waterhouse, Hylas and the Nymphs (1896) By Herbert James Draper, Ulysses and the Sirens (1909) My thoughts # The idea of beauty on the outside but with dangerous and cunning motive inside is just mesmerizing and fascinating at the same time isn’t it?
Please enjoy the remaining drawings and sculptures of Mermaid that I found on the internet.
Sculpture # Archaic perfume vase in the shape of a siren (540BC) Sculpture of the Mermaid of St Dogmael in Pembrokeshire Village, Wales By Steve Hayward, Mermaid of the North in Balintore, Scotland (2007) By Edvard Eriksen, Statue of The Little Mermaid in Copenhagen (1913) Drawing # By John William Waterhouse, The siren (1900) By Elisabeth Jerichau Baumann, Mermaid (1873) By Frederic Leighton, The Fisherman and the Syren (1857) By Ilya Yefimovich Repin, Sadko (1876) Mermaid from La Bibliothèque nationale de France By Arthur Rackham, A Crowned Merman By Charles Edouard Boutibonne, Mermaids Frolicking in the Sea (1883) By Frans Francken the Elder, Allegory: the Ship of State (late 1500s) By Arthur Rackham, Rhinegold & The Valkyrie (1910) By John William Waterhouse, Ulysses and the sirens (1891) By Julius Hübner, Melusine (1844) Sirens in Oxford, Bodleian Library MS Bodley 764 By James Clark Hook, Catching a Mermaid (1883) By Evelyn De Morgan, The Sea Maidens (1886) References # https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mermaid#Eastern_Europe
https://womennart.com/2020/06/17/sirens-and-mermaids/
https://sarahpeverley.com/2014/07/25/mermaids-the-lure-of-sirens-song-2/
https://thedruidscauldron.net/2022/11/03/mermaids-the-sailors-doom/
https://www.rmg.co.uk/stories/topics/what-mermaid
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Little_Mermaid_(1989_film)
https://americanliterature.com/author/hans-christian-andersen/short-story/the-little-mermaid/

Tip This article is available in Vietnamese and Russian
Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec
Hello! E. Stallings in 1993. It is about the story of Hades, the god of the underworld, kidnapping Persephone and enticing her to his home, however in a timid and gentle voice. Hope you will enjoy it!
Hades Welcomes His Bride # Come now, child, adjust your eyes, for sight
Is here a lesser sense. Here you must learn
Directions through your fingertips and feet
And map them in your mind. I think some shapes
Will gradually appear. The pale things twisting
Overhead are mostly roots, although some worms
Arrive here clinging to their dead. Turn here.
Ah. And in this hall will sit our thrones,
And here you shall be queen, my dear, the queen
Of all men ever to be born. No smile?
Well, some solemnity befits a queen.
These thrones I have commissioned to be made
Are unlike any you imagined; they glow
Of deep-black diamonds and lead, subtler
And in better taste than gold, as will suit
Your timid beauty and pale throat. Come now,
Down these winding stairs, the air more still
And dry and easier to breathe. Here is a room
For your diversions. Here I’ve set a loom
And silk unraveled from the finest shrouds
And dyed the richest, rarest shades of black.
Such pictures you shall weave! Such tapestries!
For you I chose those three thin shadows there,
And they shall be your friends and loyal maids,
And do not fear from them such gossiping
As servants usually are wont. They have
Not mouth nor eyes and cannot thus speak ill
Of you. Come, come. This is the greatest room;
I had it specially made after great thought
So you would feel at home. I had the ceiling
Painted to recall some evening sky–
But without the garish stars and lurid moon.
What? That stark shape crouching in the corner?
Sweet, that is to be our bed.
